The 7th International Symposium on Ultrafast Phenomena and Terahertz Waves, jointly organized by the Key Laboratory of Terahertz Solid-State Technology of the Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, Shanghai University of Science and Technology, Chinese Society of Scientific and Industrial Measurement, and Shanghai Institute of Scientific and Industrial Measurement, and sponsored by the Shanghai Society of Scientific and Industrial Measurement, was held in the Grand Hall on the 3rd Floor of the 5th Building of the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, on October 13-14, 2014.
Experts and scholars from 10 countries, including China, the United States, Japan, Germany, Russia, France, and Australia, attended the meeting. More than 10 well-known domestic enterprises displayed their achievements outside the venue. The meeting was chaired by Professor Cao Juncheng from the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, and Deputy Director Qi Ming from the same institute delivered the opening speech, extending a warm welcome to all the representatives and guests and wishing the meeting a complete success.
During the conference, experts and scholars from various countries mainly focused on the two themes "Ultra-fast Phenomena and Ultra-short Lasers" and "The Wave of Terahertz Science and Technology" for extensive and in-depth discussions. The reports covered ultra-fast science and technology; ultra-fast phenomena in physics, chemistry, and biology; high-speed diagnostics, image processing, data analysis; attosecond light sources; strong magnetic field physics and applications; terahertz sources, detectors, transmission and propagation of terahertz waves; new theories, devices, and technologies of terahertz waves; new concepts and terahertz radiation; terahertz plasmons and metamaterials; terahertz time-domain spectroscopy; terahertz spectroscopy and imaging; nonlinear phenomena in the terahertz range; interaction of terahertz radiation with matter, etc., and there was a lively interaction between the speakers and the audience.
The topics of this meeting are cutting-edge, covering both theoretical analysis and practical applications, showcasing the latest achievements in ultra-fast phenomena and terahertz waves in recent years. The successful holding of this seminar has enhanced the academic reputation and international status of our country in this field, promoted mutual understanding and cooperation between domestic scientific researchers and internationally renowned experts, and promoted the research and development of ultra-fast lasers and terahertz science and technology.
